High Anxiety
2020 will be remembered as the perfect storm of stress with an unpredictable intensity both mentally and physically due to the magnitude of the pandemic.
The stressful year made the artist wonder if wildlife ever experienced any level of stress? Her conclusion was that wild animals do indeed face adverse circumstances on a daily basis. They endure many stressors in their environment. They tend to hide and live where predators are less likely. âHigh Anxietyâ captures a traumatic anxiety-ridden time in the high country. Thankfully Mom has come to the rescue.
The artwork depicted in the image portrays three wolves on a rocky terrain, one significantly larger than the others, which suggests a mother and its offspring. The larger wolf is standing while looking downwards to its left where the smaller one is crouching and climbing up a slope. The fur of the wolves is rendered in shades of grey, highlighting detailed texture that suggests the softness and wildness of their coats.
The background features a rugged cliffside that descends into a body of water, a river, indicated by a wavelength pattern and hints of blue hues. The attention to detail in the rocky surfaces is meticulous, with different tones and shadows depicting the nooks and crannies of the steep cliff faces. The overall coloring of the scene uses a somewhat muted palette, which gives the artwork a naturalistic and serene atmosphere. The pose of the animals and the wild, desolate landscape contribute to creating a narrative of survival or a moment in their natural habitat.
The original oil painting is 40"H x 30"W x 1.5"D on gallery wrap canvas.
